This update modifies an existing installation of PageMaker 6.5 for Macintosh to fix a number of problems that were discovered after the product was released. After running this update, PageMaker will appear as version 6.52. The updater works with the following language versions of PageMaker 6.5: Brazilian Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish, and Swedish.
* PRINTING AND PDF EXPORT FIXES
When printing with the "Manage Composites on Printer" option selected in the CMS Preferences dialog box, or exporting to PDF with the CIE output color model selected, PageMaker generated a "rangecheck" PostScript error. PageMaker 6.52 no longer generates the error under these conditions.
When trapping tints created in the Color Options dialog box, the percentage of color applied to the "spread" color could be inaccurate. PageMaker 6.52 applies the correct tint percentage.
In certain circumstances, drag copying or pasting an EPS from Adobe Illustrator to PageMaker, caused a bus error when printing. This has been corrected in PageMaker 6.52.
* OTHER FIXES
PageMaker 6.5 suffered performance problems when converting a large PageMaker 5.0 or 6.0 publication. The performance has been greatly improved with the 6.52 update. To realize the performance gains, make sure enough disk space is available before converting your older publications. If the publication is a PageMaker 5.0 file, free up an amount of space triple the size of the publication file. If the publication is a PageMaker 6.0 file, free up an amount of space double the size of the publication file.
Large graphics such as EPS and bitmap files on a master page no longer decrease the speed of text composition on pages to which the master was applied.
Dragging EPS files into PageMaker could cause a lock-up if PageMaker had been in the background and EPS colors were added to the Colors palette. PageMaker 6.52 resolves this problem.
Using the Grid Manager under certain conditions could result in an inability to turn pages. PageMaker 6.52 resolves this problem.
Some PageMaker palettes failed to display properly on some Power Macintosh Powerbooks when video mirroring was turned on. PageMaker 6.52 resolves this problem.

1. Quit all applications.
2. Restart the Macintosh with the Shift key held down to disable all extensions, virus-detection, and screen-saver software. (If you have a copy of PageMaker on a network server, do not disable all extensions in this manner since that would make servers unavailable.)
3. Double-click the Adobe PageMaker 6.52 Updater file.
4. Select the language you want to appear in the updater windows and dialog boxes, then click Continue. Note that although the updater windows and dialog boxes are not available in Norwegian, the updater will successfully update these language versions of PageMaker 6.5.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions until the updater notifies you that PageMaker has been updated.
6. Click Quit to exit the updater.
The updater updates PageMaker and installs a Read Me PM 6.52 file that explains the problems it resolves. The update process replaces the PageMaker application itself and (on the Power Macintosh only) the PM6.5 Libraries file, but it does not update or otherwise modify component files such as filters or plug-ins.
After installing the updater, when you select the PageMaker application icon in the Finder, and then choose File > Get Info, the Version field in the Get Info window will read "6.52."
